Considered Environments – New Farm State School by COBiE Group

By creating a sustainably made environment for the staff and students at New Farm State School, COBiE Group has exemplified its commitment to designing projects that benefit the end user. With support from ForestOne, EGGER wood-based décor products are employed to add a bright and eco-friendly backdrop for learning.

Located in Brisbane, the New Farm State School establishes a new era of design for schools and public spaces. With a focus on providing a safe and environmentally friendly space, Clare Smyth led the project, providing the school with new spaces in which students and staff can feel warm and invited. Asserting an elegant and striking scene throughout the classrooms, office, library and staff kitchen, EGGER’s wood-based décor product in Vicenza Oak helps to convey COBiE Group’s desire to deliver a thoughtful learning environment. As the delivery architect on the project, COBiE Group was delighted to execute the plan by design architect BVN, including the specified materials.

When designing New Farm State School, COBiE Group considered how the spaces will be used and how tough the interiors need to be. Primary education facilities need highly durable finishes due to the volume of children and the frequency of use within the spaces. In working with ForestOne due to its sustainable practices and outcomes, Clare and her team used EGGER’s Vicenza Oak for its calming finish and durable strength.

The project “gave us the perfect backdrop to include the natural timber look with a realistic grain and texture,” says Clare. Along with its bright and natural aesthetics, Vicenza Oak adds an ageless appearance that will last for years to come. Understanding EGGER’s products and the manufacturer’s sustainable emphasis “gives us an added incentive, ensuring that our projects are utilising a best-practice approach,” emphasises Clare. She adds, “EGGER’s closed loop production line utilising sustainable forestry is something that stood out to us when understanding the product’s origin.”

By specifying EGGER’s wood-based décor, Clare and the team at COBiE Group encourage the use of environmentally respectful materials within this space. With its open and light-filled design, New Farm State School becomes a nurturing environment for learning.
